Dietitians in Autism are a group of Dietitians who work with individuals with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).

Diversity is a key element of the group, from its members (NHS and private practitioners), caseloads (adults and children) as well as actual clinical practice, but it is these differences that encourage debate and a greater overall understanding of this interesting area of dietetics.

We are affiliated to the BDA Paediatric Specialist Group but many of us are also members of the Mental Health Group. Members are based throughout the UK and we arrange three meetings each year – usually at The Walsgrave Hospital, Coventry.

Our principle aims are:

•To share information about our own work experiences

•To discuss the latest research and evidence-based practice

•To feedback from any relevant conferences / lectures / workshops

•To offer advice and support to colleagues working in autism

•To establish ourselves as the best source of professional, balanced information about diet and ASD to key organisations and among the wider community

Read more about autism on The National Autistic Society website here (www.autism.org.uk ) or about autism and diet on the BDA food facts sheet here (www.bda.uk.com/foodfacts)

To find out how to join the group (it’s free), and to access minutes of past meetings, past presentations, useful diet sheets and other resources please log in to the members only part of the BDA website and go to groups (access the Dietitians in Autism page via the paeds or MHG pages).
